UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur, represented by Prof. Euis Nurul Hidayah, took an important role in two major international academic activities hosted by the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Laos (NUOL) with support from the AUN/SEDD-Net project on 26–29 November 2025. The participation reflects the university’s continuous commitment to advancing global engagement, strengthening scientific networks, and contributing to sustainable development discourse at the international level.
The first agenda was the International Conference on Science, Engineering and Innovation (ICSEI) 2025, a prestigious gathering that brought together leading academic scientists, interdisciplinary researchers, industry experts, and policymakers. The conference served as a platform for sharing the latest research discoveries, exchanging innovative ideas, and highlighting the crucial role of science, engineering, and technology in responding to global sustainability challenges. Through this conference, participants examined a wide spectrum of research themes—ranging from green technology, engineering innovations, energy solutions, environmental protection, industrial systems, to digital transformation and smart society development.

Complementing this major conference, the second agenda consisted of two specialized workshops held under the umbrella of the AUN/SEDD-Net initiative. The IAC-WV & WR Workshop on Industry-Academia Collaboration for Waste Valorization of Industrial Wastewater and Water Recycling Using Green Technology provided a focused forum for academia and industry representatives to explore advanced and environmentally responsible methods for processing industrial wastewater. Discussions emphasized cutting-edge technologies such as biological treatment systems, membrane filtration, circular water reuse strategies, and waste-to-resource innovations—approaches essential to supporting cleaner industrial operations in Southeast Asia.
In addition, a Workshop on Circular Economy on Wastewater and Waste Management further enriched the program by encouraging participants to rethink waste as a valuable resource. The workshop addressed pressing issues such as integrated waste management systems, circular resource loops, sustainability-focused engineering approaches, and policy frameworks needed to support circular economy transitions in developing regions. Experts and scholars from various countries exchanged experiences, proposed collaborative project ideas, and explored future opportunities for joint research across universities in the ASEAN network.

A significant achievement for UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur was the involvement of Nur Lalili Alifiatin, an outstanding student from the Department of Environmental Engineering, who was invited to present her final research project. Her participation not only demonstrated the high quality of research produced by UPN Jatim students but also showcased the university’s readiness to participate in global academic discussions. Presenting at an international forum allowed her to gain valuable feedback from experts, broaden her academic exposure, and strengthen her professional network—an opportunity that underscores UPN Jatim’s commitment to nurturing globally competitive graduates.
The active engagement of UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur in these international agendas also highlights the university’s dedication to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to clean water and sanitation, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and climate action. By contributing to discussions on green technology and circular economy, UPN Jatim reinforces its role as a higher education institution that actively supports environmental sustainability and resilience in the region.

Furthermore, this participation reflects the university’s strategic mission to expand international cooperation. Through interaction with scholars and experts from NUOL, AUN-member institutions, and various international organizations, UPN Jatim strengthens collaborative pathways that can lead to joint publications, research grants, student exchanges, and capacity-building programs in the future.
Overall, UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur’s involvement in these events demonstrates a meaningful step forward in fostering scientific advancement at the international level. It reaffirms the institution’s belief that global partnerships, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation-driven research are essential foundations for addressing the world’s pressing environmental and technological challenges.
